He enjoyed a daily air bath to cleanse his skin. It was known, from early in the eighteenth century, that an electrical shock could cause involuntarily twitching and contraction of muscles. Thus to produce our north-east storms I suppose some great heat and rarefaction of the air in or about the Gulf of Mexico; the air thence rising has its place supplied by the next more northern, cooler, and therefore denser and heavier air; that, being in motion, is followed by the next more northern air, etc. With numerous well-informed correspondents - including physicians and scientists on two continents - and, as a skilled writer, he was capable of writing letters, articles, collections of sayings and other works filled with medical commentary. Born in Boston in 1706, Benjamin Franklin was the youngest son of 17 children. In 1751 Franklin's friend, Dr Thomas Bond, began a campaign to raise money for what would be the first voluntary hospital in the colonies. Music played in fashionable drawing rooms and there were activities from fishing to parties and dances.
Besides numerous other duties, Franklin negotiated much needed loan money for the colonies in order to secure independence from the British. He suggested instead that putrid matter in the air was responsible. When his services were accepted by Congress, he showed that he was thoroughly dependable; and his military ability and leadership were likewise shown in the reorganization of the Army in the days ahead. He built bulkheads not just for ships of the sea, he built bulkheads for his countrymen for all time. Many educated men were active or interested in politics, civic or social improvement, and scientific exploration. He was the only man to sign all of these four major documents: the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty of Alliance with France, the Constitution of the United States, and the Treaty of Peace with Great Britain.
In particular, he was actively involved with the defense of Pennsylvania and the other colonies against the French and Indians. It is important to also note that Franklin gave his inventions to the world. The adages and poetry in Poor Richard's Almanac, the entire contents of which were authored by Franklin, served to instruct the masses at the same time they entertained. Both Ludwig van Beethoven and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed music for the strange instrument. In 1723, Franklin left Boston for New York City and then, upon finding no employment there, traveled to Philadelphia. In fact, he opted not to patent his inventions since all of them are meant for the use of everybody. In a terrific battle, two proud English ships surrendered; and they were brought into French waters as American prizes. He served in the Pennsylvania Assembly and spent 15 years in London as a colonial agent. So Franklin devised a better solution: a flexible catheter made of hinged segments of tubes. This paper was developed by a student taking a Philanthropic Studies course taught at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. In November of 1749 Franklin listed areas of commonality of these two, at the time separate, phenomenon. He was always trying to discover something that was new. He described these treatments in a letter to Sir John Pringle, dated 21 December 1757. In this case, it would be easier to use them both without much frustration. Ben Franklin was a great scientist and helped the Americans in the American Revolution by trying to unite the Colonies.
Franklin and Junto founded the Philadelphia Library in 1731. They are attributed to one Benjamin Franklin. Importance Benjamin Franklin combined his dedication to state and country with his commitment to personal achievement in improving the lives of his fellow Americans. Pennsylvania Hospital received its charter in May 1751 and, in 1756, the first patients were admitted to the hospital's building at Eighth and Pine Streets. He quickly found employment in the print shop of Samuel Keimer, founder of the Pennsylvania Gazette, which would later be purchased by Franklin and his partner, Hugh Meredith. At the end of his life, he encouraged Congress to abolish slavery, using the power of his position as statesman as well as his office as the first president of the Pennsylvania Society for the Abolition of Slavery.
